The answers provided by Google's experts were far superior to the answers provided by Yahoo's masses. For instance, I asked a really specific question about removing an abondoned mobile home, the answers went like:
Yahoo: start an accidental fire ...
Google: 5 paragraphs citing N.C. property law
I wish Google hadn't stopped its service.
Why did Google discontinue its Answers site?
There is no doubt that Google provided a superior service, but enough people did not participate in it, and Google was charging for service. Yahoo is free, and while not everyone participating is a technical expert, enough people are that you will eventually get a really good answer. You will also get some really dumb answers, also.
