How did google assign street names to every single street, avenue, dirt road etc...?

Just kinda curious as to how Google has been able to give every image on their google maps or google earth a street name. Did somebody have to type in the street names or what?

How did google assign street names to every single street, avenue, dirt road etc...?
The Dept. of Transportation assigns all public access roads with names, not google. And yes, the programmer had to type in all the names.
Reply:Google bought the map data from a third party company. That company aggregates map data from the same companies that publishes city maps, so the data was already there. They just put it online.
Reply:Street and road names are assigned by the political subdivision that they are in. City, county, or whatever. NOT by google.
