Why is Google more popular than Yahoo?

I don't understand why everyone says google this and google that when actually it should be Yahoo this and Yahoo that because is it just me who thinks Yahoo! is better the Google?

Why is Google more popular than Yahoo?
I use them roughly equally for searching; Yahoo!'s my homepage though. Yahoo! offers better overall services; Google is better at finding really specific searches. I guess Google is more popular because it's the most lo-fi option avaliable for new users of the internet.

Reply:It's just become a kind of 'word' to describe searching the internet for something. Google has become popular because of the amount of publicity it has recieved-whether good or bad- and because of its clean user interface.





I remember when I had dial-up; I'd set my homepage to google becuase of its low graphics and then I'd just use it becuase it's there. Now that I have broadband, I still keep google as my homepage. Also I use it to check whether or not I'm getting an internet connection- again because of the fact that there's hardly anything to download!
Reply:good question for a change. It must be a real Yahoo question. I think the answer is that when people say Google this and Google that, they are talking about searching using the Yahoo or Google search engine.





It's in that respect that Google is probably better. Remember that there are hundreds of search engines, Yahoo and Google being the most popular and most used.





Google generally provides the best search results hence the expression Google it. But the contest is not only between Google and Yahoo.





So "Google it," has become the popular term for saying, "Search on the Internet." Just like Hoover, (Which is a brand name) became to word used to describe all vacuum cleaners

Reply:Not the search engine. Google smokes Yahoo on searches. It's not even a competition. They have a better homepage, too (www.igoogle.com) - you can get your preferred content w/o having to log in every time.





Yahoo is more fun, though.
Reply:beacause google's open source it can be incorporated into other people's applications, so you get used to it even when using something else - even yahoo used google until very recently. They also buy user traffic (you Tube).
Reply:I LOVE GOOGLE!!! I seem to find more there....when I do a yahoo search it doesnt bring up as much...plus it's catchy...if you have a problem just GOOGLE it!!!

type in a website address (website.co.uk) in both yahoo and google and you'll see that the first result of google is that particular website - on yahoo its not!
Reply:I've always prefered Yahoo! to Google after all Yahoo! came first and i've been using the web since before google was founded and there was just really Yahoo! as the most well known search engine
