When I search something in google or yahoo it comes up with the list of links like normal just when I click on one of those links it directs me back to the google main page(google.com) or yahoo.com if i'm using yahoo.

Your system is infected with Trojan. Install a good anti virus like Nod32 and scan your pc or use Ad-aware.
