Reply:Depends, I think maybe every year, I've noticed alot of Google Satelite pics are old based on my house, i viewed it a while back and my backyard is way different from what it is now, based on my backyard, I'd say they maybe replace the pics every year. Covering the whole earth isn't a easy task.

I currently run the site, http://www.gotalkmoney.com The website went live at the beginning of March 2006. As of late, my site will rank on page 2 for the keyword "money forum" SOMETIMES. When it's not on page 2, its usually around the page 9 or 10 mark. Is this a good sign and how long does the sandbox usually last with google? I'm familiar with the google datacenters, etc but this really confuses me.

Google Log In Failure?
Since two days, I am facing failures to Log in Google, Blogger and pages related with google.
The screen is just plain Blankwith just the address bar and not even saying it's not going to do any thing neir\ther mentions any error code etc !! Pl. Help and oblige !

They might be having network problems. I have Googles and there is no problems here. Try uninstalling googles then reinstalling as there might be some files that are corrupt. Good Luck

Accuracy of Google Earth?
OK. Google Earth pretends to go to 0º00'00.01", which is to say one hundredth of one second of one degree. This is equal to (and correct me if I'm wrong) 30.87cm.
1º = 60 nautical miles so therefore 0º01'=1 nautical mile
1 nautical mile = 1852m
therfore the accuracy proclaimed by Google Earth is 1852/60/100 which equals 30.87cm

How does google differ from other engines in the way it ranks sites?
I have a site which is number 1 on yahoo, msn, ask etc but for some reason i just can't get above page 3 on google. I know that nobobdy knows for sure how google rank sites but how come im number 1 everywhere else but just can't crack google?

Google on the other hand did and refunded the ammount back to us. If you're thinking of going for adwords, make sure you only advertise on search and not on content otherwise you could get a lot of clicks that have no quality. Adwords is NOT free.
Adsense is where you have ads on your site and make money when people click on those ads. Do not be tempted to click on the ads that show up on your own site though as Google monitors IP addresses and will claim back the cash and ban you from the Adsense program.

Since the name is not actually just Google, there is nothing they can do about it, except possibly take the users to court. The legal questions are incredibly complex.

Why is Google forcing me to click twice?
For some odd reason, Google is forcing people to click twice on search results for this site rather than sending people straight through.
Check it out yourself: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=na...
Then scroll down to the 7th link, there, Draft Express, and click on it. It will just bring up the same google search result again, and if u click a 2nd time, it will finally go through.
The really weird part is, this can't be replicated in any way shape or form. If you try doing it again, it goes through on the first try, and if you try using a different search result for the same site, it still goes through on the first try. The only way to replicate this it seems is to come back tomorrow or go to another computer.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Its all about competition and market share which is the exact same reason Microsoft is wiggling into the market.
Yahoo and Google are direct competitors and with more and more money going towards online development, (search and search advertising will become a 12 billion dollar industry by 2010 alone) they cannot afford to ignore what is in front of them.
Such large markets translate to 1% equaling millions of dollars depending on the type of market share, thats too big to give up. If your competitor comes out with a useful product, you have no choice but to follow suit for fear of losing market share.
Google hasn't really been inventing so much as they have been innovating and bettering what is already in place. Expect to see these two companies and Microsoft "bite" off each other for some time.

Yahoo Messenger is one of the oldest IM programs around - last year Google came up with (the most amazingly pathetic, in my view) GoogleTalk.
I don't think there's any question of Yahoo wanting to be the next Google - I feel the opposite is truer.
Sure Google WAS the fastest riser for some time, but still has a long way to go to be thought of as anything much more than a superb search engine.

Yahoo and Google are direct competitors and with more and more money going towards online development, (search and search advertising will become a 12 billion dollar industry by 2010 alone) they cannot afford to ignore what is in front of them.
Such large markets translate to 1% equaling millions of dollars depending on the type of market share, thats too big to give up. If your competitor comes out with a useful product, you have no choice but to follow suit for fear of losing market share.
Google hasn't really been inventing so much as they have been innovating and bettering what is already in place. Expect to see these two companies and Microsoft "bite" off each other for some time.
Reply:Just for SOME sort of balance here, Yahoo Mail has been around for many years - last year GOOGLE launched their OWN GMail.
Yahoo Messenger is one of the oldest IM programs around - last year Google came up with (the most amazingly pathetic, in my view) GoogleTalk.
I don't think there's any question of Yahoo wanting to be the next Google - I feel the opposite is truer.
Sure Google WAS the fastest riser for some time, but still has a long way to go to be thought of as anything much more than a superb search engine.

Can you get a virus on your PC from watching a viedeo from Google video?
Can a virus destroy your harddrive and make it completely inopperable?
1. My girlfriend watched a video on Google video and taht night her harddrive happened to die.

Lots of google search results are missing? what's wrong with google?
a strange thing i found! yesterday i did a search at google, today i do the same search with same keywords i really found that most of results are missing! i tried other keywords whose results i am very familiar with,also lots of search results are missing! a more funny thing,when i did one search, google told me there are 177 results,but i could only find 4 results at most. any ideas?

Need Help Installing Google Analytics on Redirect URLs?
I am wanting to set up some domains with a redirect to other domains and offers...
In doing this, I want to install Google Analytics on these domains i'm using as Redirects.
However, Google states that the Analytics code must be between the %26lt;body%26gt; %26lt;/body%26gt; tags.
Well, when doing a redirect (at least the redirects I know about) - there is no %26lt;body%26gt; %26lt;/body%26gt; tags, and I can't get Google Analytics to work with redirect domains.
Can someone please help me on what type of code I need to use for a redirect - that will be friendly with the Google Analytics Code I need to put on my page to track stats?

The reason you don't need to do this is because stats generated on a redirect page will be roughly the same as those of the landing page. The only difference will be the referrer attribute which if you put on the landing page will be great because it should tell you the redirect page. Secondly, putting it on the redirect page instead of the landing page will not yield useful results because each visitor will only be there a short time. So you will see a tremendous bounce rate. A bounce rate is when a visitor hits the site and within like 30 seconds leaves your site.
You will find that the stats generated on the landing page will be more comprehensive, more detailed, and more accurately reflect what your visitors are doing. Remember that Google Analytics also tracks things like how long a user stays on the site, what they are viewing in the way of content, etc and all that will be wasted on a redirect page.
If you want to go up and beyond what Google Analytics provides you in the way of tracking which redirect domains are the most active, it would actually be more beneficial to simply code a page that tallies a hit in a database table. Then you could compare the tallies to those of the visitors on the landing page that Google Analytics is tracking to add the benefit of seeing who hit your redirect and ditched out of the request... never making it to your landing page.

when i open internet explorer , google website opens as home page . i havent set google as my home page . also i went tools%26gt; internet options%26gt; general %26amp; set about blank as home page.but still google opens as home page .

If you didn't set your homepage to google, that probably means a program did. Download Ad-Aware SE from lavasoft.de if you don't already have it, and run a scan. You may have adware/spyware/malware on your computer.
Reply:If your system defualts to something you did not set, you have spyware from a free type program or application you have downloaded, the fine print is that you give permission to set advertisement, spyware, search from sites like google, and/or You have a virused computer,
I would first un-install any free programs or applications, 2nd, I load a free version of www.avast.com home version software and run and do free registration,(great program), and 3rd, I would buy Spy Sweeper and schedule it to sweep your system everyday to remove spyware programs. That should cleen up you PC.
If you have another version of out dated Anti virus, be sure to uninstall it before you load avast. Start/Control Panel/Add remove programs Select program and click un-install, and reboot when it is done...

If you didn't set your homepage to google, that probably means a program did. Download Ad-Aware SE from lavasoft.de if you don't already have it, and run a scan. You may have adware/spyware/malware on your computer.
Reply:If your system defualts to something you did not set, you have spyware from a free type program or application you have downloaded, the fine print is that you give permission to set advertisement, spyware, search from sites like google, and/or You have a virused computer,
I would first un-install any free programs or applications, 2nd, I load a free version of www.avast.com home version software and run and do free registration,(great program), and 3rd, I would buy Spy Sweeper and schedule it to sweep your system everyday to remove spyware programs. That should cleen up you PC.
If you have another version of out dated Anti virus, be sure to uninstall it before you load avast. Start/Control Panel/Add remove programs Select program and click un-install, and reboot when it is done...

I just don't get it. I submitted my website over 3 months ago to the Google search engine and my website has a sitemap with over 90 links that i submitted to google also. Yes, my site does come up in google but very lowly. I have a large amount of daily traffic and my site DOES NOT use frames and my site is content filled. When i type in the title of my website in google, my website shows up at the bottom even though the keywords are relevant.So please answer this: How can i raise my ranking on Google and how come only selected webpages of my site show up on google? Why does Google think my website is about gardening when I'm a book designer?
I am a book designer and I just posted my portfolio online for the first time. Google had no problem finding it, but besides my name, every single keyword to find my site is gardening related. Neither my website nor my sitemap.xml file have anything to do with gardening! I haven't yet plugged in meta tags and this might correct the problem, but it seems very specific and I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of it. Why is Google considered so much better than Yahoo?
I often use Yahoo for internet searches etc. But I recently heard that about 75% of all internet searches are conducted through Google. Why is google so much more popular than Yahoo? What makes Google so much better? To me, they seem like they serve the same basic function, except Yahoo seems to have more content (but obviously I must be wrong). Thanks

Each time I use Google Maps (http://maps.google.com), a dialog box appears, which is labeled "Windows Installer", and then another dialong box appears, saying "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Professional", and then another dialog box appears, asking for the Office 2000 Professional disc, which I dont have.
My computer's operating system is Windows XP Professional, and I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed.

Why is google black today?
I've read a lot of points as to black sites using less energy on CRT monitors. But, I haven't heard the statistics of lcd monitors. Also, Google posted back in August of 2007 that they didn't have intentions of going black. Google always keeps their homepage interesting by celebrating our major holidays, I just want to know from Google why the sudden black today!

They sent you a warning after you used the site, so that as well as other auto-surf, pay-to-surf, pay-to-read or pay-to-click sites are against the rules. Any site that promises you free traffic or those "100,000 visits for only $29.99" are low quality traffic that can get in you big trouble with Adsense.
I suggest you concentrate in getting traffic from more acceptable methods such as:
- creating quality content so people would want to go to your site
- getting high search engine rankings
- press releases (there are free press releases around)
- article submissions

I would check to see if you can cancel any of your free traffic memberships.

Why Shouldn't Google Answers Let People Ask Questions About Google?
I recently wrote an article about how Google Answers won't allow people to ask questions about Google ( more here, http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/0... ). At the end of it, I asked people to come here and answer whether this should be changed. How about people already at Yahoo Answers. Don't you think this should be allowed. Is there any good reason for Google to not allow this? Yahoo Answers doesn't prevent asking questions about Yahoo on it.
Why Shouldn't Google Answers Let People Ask Questions About Google?
If you fully understood how Google Answers works, and is different from Yahoo Answers, this policy would be understood. Here is how Google Answers works:
1) Individuals from all over the world are chosen to be official researchers. They do not work for Google and are not employed by Google. Instead, they are the equivalent of webmasters who use Google Adsense. They get paid by Google for their services, but are not unique and do not have any additional information about Google. They are simply experts in various fields who, collectively, could answer just about any general question posed on Google Answers.
2) The rules for a researcher are simple. They are to USE the Google search engine to research the question asked. Then, answer the question. AND explain what searches on Google led to the answer. In other words, the whole purpose of Google Answers researchers is to eventually help people to help themselves. Rather than Google Answers just becoming a repository of questions and answers, it is a repository of how to properly conduct searches on Google in order to find the answer for yourself.
3) When someone posts a question, they set a price they are willing to pay. When a Google Answers researcher satisfactorily answers the question, the researcher is paid a majority of that price. A small fee is deducted for the service itself. The end result is, people are paying other people to do their Google searches for them. It's a very legitimate business, since a lot of people are mostly clueless about the right words or phrases to enter into a search box to give them what they are truly looking for.
4) So, now to the point. If Google allowed people to ask questions about Google itself, you might get questions like, "How can I sign up for Gmail?" A researcher could then respond, "You can visit www.gmail.com and click the link to enter your cell phone number. An invitation code will be sent to your cell phone via text message." The problem is, over time, people could be confused into thinking that Google Answers is actually a place to ask GOOGLE how to use their services. And if people have to PAY for these answers, it would APPEAR as though Google was charging money for general support for their own free services. So, Google is absolutely justified in protecting themselves AND unsuspecting users by disallowing their researchers (and Google) from profiting from those who are really just looking for general support from Google.
5) Aside from the fact that it would eventually make Google look bad, as mentioned in #4, there is another problem. If someone asks, "How can I sign up for Writely?" A researcher could then respond, "You can check on eBay. There are invitations for Writely being sold for a dollar each." The problem is, this answer is against Google's general philosophy. Google doesn't like the idea of people "selling invites" because it makes an otherwise "free service" profitable. It is along the same lines as open source or freeware authors allowing people to freely distribute their software or source code, but DISALLOWING people from charging money for it. The problem is, if a unsuspecting user visits a Google website (Google Answers) and sees this seemingly official answer, it will appear as though Google is fully authorizing this type of activity. Rather than having to police every single question themselves, trying to be sure that no question may be misleading to users or may misrepresent Google as a company, it makes complete sense to simply disallow paid questions about Google. After all, they would much rather users get answer about Google FOR FREE through their own support pages. And, if the answer to the user's question cannot be found, they can always ask Google directly through the various means of contacting support.
Why this same policy doesn't likely apply to Yahoo Answers (though it might,) is likely because there aren't financial transactions being made on Yahoo Answers (that I am aware of, at least.) It is points based. Secondly, it is community driven. Anyone and everyone can answer questions, not just specifically selected researchers. One may very well get all the answers they need through Yahoo Answers. If not, however, or there is an absolute need for a quality answer, and you are willing to pay money for the answer, then Google Answers is a safer bet.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a Google Answers researcher, though I would like to become one. So, just in case you think I am just trying to defend Google Answers because I am a paid researcher, I will reiterate that I am not a Google Answers researcher. I am just familiar with the service and how it differs from Yahoo Answers and why it is very important for Google to have the policy that they do. It's not only to protect their image, but to protect their users.

Reply:Interesting article. Actually, I've answered a couple of questions about Yahoo! incorrectly here and it really infuriated one of those people. She assumed that I was actually part of customer care.
More people than you think probably do that, so I can understand why one of Google wouldn't want one of their paid researchers telling people anything about Google when they really don't know anything more than what they can find on the web. Do you know if it was always like this or if there were some misunderstandings early on that caused this rule to be added? It does seem like something that would create a lot of confusion, and if Google isn't equipped to deal with it that's there problem.
Of course, Yahoo! Answers is just the opposite. They know their customer care isn't always that great so they don't mind much letting other people share the info. It's a great idea since those help pages can be really hard to read sometimes.

I got the same answer you where talking about on your pod cast, they took my question out and I went back and forth with them in a bit of heated exchange. My questions was about, how should I submit a site-map to google, if I am not able to access my yahoo store's sub domain, to place the site-map file, which google requires you to do. I was looking for an honest work around. I put down that I would pay $200 because I did not want to waste time. Well they took the question right off.
So the answer to your question is "Corporate Paranoia". Oh, and that whole "Don't be evil" motto, went out the door, when they so rudely shut the door in my face and told me to look it up in their help pages. I was willing to hire the researchers at their service, but I know now that their service is not the best.

Maybe google has their own terms. It looks like this google answers is a site where you ask a question to professionals who try to give you factual answers. You cant ask a Foot Doctor if the cancer on your hand is going to go away. But you can ask friends, family, or people who might have had the experience some advice about it. This feels like the same scenario. Yahoo Answers is a COMMUNITY forum. Youre not asking professionals a question, you are asking the advice ffrom actual people.
If people actually read the disclaimer and the TOS, then they shouldnt be surprised at whatever the forum does. Google is a very informative search engine. They are focused on getting facts for people who want answers. Because of the anal people who sometimes sue companies for stupid reasons, Google has the right to tell a person that they can not ask things that might be used against them if the answers are wrong. Maybe the question asked was something outside of what the contractors working for that site can answer and it was something that needed FACTUAL answers. Some of googles products are money making and they are considered a part of a business, wrong information can lead to problems if the answers are wrong. Google has an obligation to set guidelines over whatever they think would be best for their users.

The answers provided by Google's experts were far superior to the answers provided by Yahoo's masses. For instance, I asked a really specific question about removing an abondoned mobile home, the answers went like:

There is no doubt that Google provided a superior service, but enough people did not participate in it, and Google was charging for service. Yahoo is free, and while not everyone participating is a technical expert, enough people are that you will eventually get a really good answer. You will also get some really dumb answers, also.

Trouble using google video?
Hello there... I have always watched a lot of videos from google and youyube... But for some unknown reason, i have been having a lot of trouble to see any sort of google video or youtube video... I click on the link of the video i want to see, and the page load up, but a black screen which says BUFFERING stays for ever. The video never shows and never loads. Why is this happening? Just 1 week ago i was able to see many videos aithout any problem. Also, i already erased all cache (i think i did) and i put the site video.google.com on the safe list.... Can anyone please help me?

Maddie on Google?
have heard that the McCanns are striking a deal with Google to have Maddies eyes on their logo. although I really do care about Maddie and I am certainly not a McCann hater, I am not sure on this latest move. Maddie on Google? She needs finding desperately, each day that goes by could be a day of torture and pain for her - but what about all of the other kids?? They are not on Google. They are not featured daily in the news. The McCanns need to concentrate on perhaps setting up a charity and pouring in all funds into it, and employing private detectives or whatever it takes - to find ALL of these poor children that are missing.
Having said all that, if my daughter was missing I am damn certain I would concentrate on finding purely her, and her alone. It just seems a bit of a kick in the teeth for all other missing, abused etc etc kids.
PLEASE dont reply just to slate the McCanns - that is NOT why I was writing this. Adults only please!

Well in a way it is a good idea to get even more publicity - but I agree that the site should be used for all missing children as it is a worldwide site!
Maybe it will be used for others as well from now on hopefully?!

She has spoken with them five times over the phone, made numerous court appearances and was awarded custody of them but her husband refused to adhere to the court ruling. because he lives in India she has no support from the UK courts in her bid to have them returned. there are many many cases like this.
They are still 'kidnapped' children, and it's offensive to suggest only Madeleine McCann is missing

Reply:very good point ,it must be hard on those other mums and dads of other missing kids,and yes i would be looking for my girl if she was missing.in one way we have to try understand that all that is the mccanns minds is maddy, i do not agree on what they did though with this tour and no i dont hate them how can i ??i dont even know them.
seemly there was other kids that went missing the same day as maddy they made small headlines though and it was along side the news of maddy they appeared.
hard to know why this case is so big but i dont think it will be solved just yet.....but in time the truth will come.
and yes they should be hiring private i. to help them and i though the money was going to a charity that helps to find other missing kids too, is it not?
Reply:I aggree. But i have to say that i think its entirely inapropriate for google to have maddies eyes on their page. People use google for everyday things. We would all like Maddie and every lost person to be found but i think some things are just too much. The world keeps turning and life goes on, atleast for the rest of us.
